The XCS1.5K Center Channel Loudspeaker is an important piece of the puzzle to create a cinematic, immersive experience in a home theater system that uses our XRT2.1K or XRT1.1K Floor Standing Loudspeakers as the front left and front right speakers.

The Center Of An Unrivaled Home Theater Experience

The center channel speaker is a critical component in any home cinema system as a vast majority of dialog and other key sounds in a movie or television show emanate from the center speaker – thus making it essential that it produces a high quality, clear sound. The XCS1.5K has been meticulously engineered for this exact purpose.

It's also important that your center channel speaker works in perfect harmony with the front left and front right speakers so that sounds can seamlessly move from side-to-side across all three front speakers without any unwanted changes to the sound characteristics. For this reason, the XCS1.5K has been voiced to match both the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K, ensuring proper timbre of vocals and instrumentals as the sonic image moves across the virtual stage in front of you.

The XCS1.5K features a line array design similar to the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K where the midranges and tweeters are installed in an array mounted forward of the woofers, but the line array on the XCS1.5K is shorter and the drivers are operated in a hybrid Bessel alignment. This alignment provides even sound coverage for the shorter line array on the XCS1.5K and is the reason why there is not a more uniform layout of midranges and tweeters.

The XCS1.5K is rated to handle 1,500 Watts of power and is a unique hybrid design of both a 3 and 4-way speaker. For low frequencies, it has four 8" long throw carbon fiber sandwich cone woofers housed in the vented bass cabinet. All four woofers will reproduce low frequencies but if needed two of them will extend to slightly higher frequencies until reaching the crossover point where the (14) 2.5" aluminum midranges take over. The midranges are located in the line array along with (25) 3/4" dome tweeters. The careful selection of the speaker drivers based on their performance attributes, the placement of the individual drivers, and the detailed crossover design result in a uniform and wide sound field. This means that even if you are not sitting directly centered on the speaker you will still be able to clearly hear every sound coming from the center channel.

The speaker grilles feature black knit cloth with high gloss trim; if you prefer to have the drivers visible, the grilles are easily removed via their magnetic fasteners.

The XCS1.5K can also be tilted in its base to one of five preset angles so the speaker can be optimally aimed towards your listening position, giving you more control over the speaker and how to set it up in your home.

The crossover networks used in the XCS1.5K are phase matched between the low frequency, midrange, and high frequency sections to ensure a smooth frequency response over the entire audible range. The crossover inductors were selected so they will not add audible distortion, while the network capacitors are film type for extra reliability. All the capacitors and inductors were chosen for high current capacity; the midrange and tweeter sections use auto-resetting over-current devices to provide an extra measure of protection.

Three sets of our Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts are located on the back of the XCS1.5K. These patented speaker connectors will securely attach the speaker cables to the speaker. Separate pairs of binding posts are available for the mid/high, low, and subwoofer frequencies to allow for bi- or tri-amping or bi- or tri-wiring.

Like the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K, the XCS1.5K bass cabinet is finished with 7 layers of high gloss piano black paint and has touches of brushed and black aluminum. The line array features hints of the classic McIntosh front panel with a black center section and silver trim. It is suspended in front of the bass cabinet via steel spiders that are inspired by modern skyscraper construction; they are capped with magnetic covers that mimic the look of McIntosh control knobs. All of these luxurious design features result in a cohesive family of front left, center, and right channel speakers in your home theater that will not only sound amazing but will also be the envy of your friends and guests.

The ML1 Loudspeaker was the first speaker McIntosh ever made. It was introduced in 1970 with a mid-century modern design style and produced amazing sound quality with high volume output capability and tremendous bass response, especially when paired with 

McIntosh® ML1 12" American Walnut Loudspeaker

The original ML1 was discontinued in 1977, though we have continued to offer high performance speakers ever since. Now with a gesture to our speaker origins, we are bringing back the ML1 as the ML1 Loudspeaker Mk II.

Externally, the new ML1 evokes memories of when the original ML1 was available – a time when there were less distractions, and it was easier to listen to music and become immersed in it. The classic looks of the ML1 rekindles the mood of that era so you can relax and appreciate your favorite songs.

The cabinet is built from oiled American Walnut solid woods and veneers with a satin finish. It has a matching magnetically attached, removable wood grille with acoustically transparent black knit cloth with a touch of metal trim, giving the speaker a refined look. Gone are the vertical wood slats found on the original ML1's grille that could interfere with music playback. The new ML1's grille only has acoustically transparent cloth that does not obstruct the music.

Internally, the new ML1 is full modern performance-first speaker technology. A 4-way speaker, the ML1 uses five separate speaker drivers to produce astonishing sound:

Woofer: one 12" woofer in a sealed enclosure with a polypropylene cone and dust cap with synthetic rubber suspension.

Lower Midrange: two 4" lower midrange drivers in a sealed sub-enclosure also with polypropylene cones and dust caps with synthetic rubber suspension.

Upper Midrange: one 2" soft dome upper midrange.

Tweeter: one 3/4" Titanium dome tweeter (the same tweeter used in our XR50 and XR100 speakers).

Unlike the original ML1, the drivers on the new generation ML1 are positioned symmetrically so there is not a dedicated left and right speaker, eliminating the possibility of installing the speakers in the wrong orientation, and providing a more uniform listening area.

A specially milled transition plate houses the midranges and tweeter and allows them to be placed close together. Their close proximity to each other reduces off axis lobing of the sound field and places all the acoustic output that typically impacts imaging together in a small space. The transition plate also provides a strong foundation for the upper frequency units to reduce vibrations that might affect the sound. Internal cabinet bracing provides an airtight and separated enclosure from the 12" woofer to further minimize vibrations.

The upper midrange in the ML1 has low resonance and high-power handling capabilities; this allows the crossover point between the lower and upper midranges to avoid the 1kHz frequency that is critical to producing clear vocals. The crossover frequency of the tweeter reduces vertical lobing of the sound field and allows the ML1 to reproduce the recorded music more faithfully.

The ML1 is engineered to handle up from an amplifier, making it perfect for high-powered listening sessions that would strain other speakers. Its five individual speaker drivers work together to share the power load, keeping the ML1 unstressed when fed clean, high-power from powerful amplifiers such as the McIntosh MC611 and MC462. The resulting life-sized sound can fill up all but the largest rooms.

But it's also nimble enough to produce amazing sound when used with lower power amplifiers like the MC275, MC1502, MC830, and MC312. To achieve an even higher level of sonic performance, the ML1 can be bi-amped with our MC451 amplifier.

With its 12" woofer, the ML1 has an incredible bass response down to 27Hz, which is close to the lowest frequency the human ear can detect. A subwoofer will typically not be needed to achieve deep, punchy bass.

You might see some similarly sized speakers with more woofers, but don't be deceived by a higher woofer count as there is no substitute for woofer size. In fact, the single 12" woofer in the ML1 has the same surface area as four 6" woofers – and when it comes to the bass frequencies that a woofer produces, the larger the surface area the better to push all that air.

The 12" woofer has been designed to work in an acoustic suspension design enclosure, just like the original. However, much has been learned since the original ML1 speaker, and modern design and simulation tools were used to develop design parameters that provide a bass response similar to the original but without the need for an external equalizer.

The woofer also uses our patented Low Distortion High Performance (LD/HP®) Magnetic Circuit Design that significantly reduces distortion while increasing power handling and efficiency. The performance improvements from LD/HP are so vast that the 12" woofer in the ML1 could rival woofers twice its size.

Unlike many speakers that project their best sound over a narrow area in front of the speaker, the ML1 delivers exceptional sound over a wider area at all frequencies thanks to its 4-way design, carefully selected driver complement and sizes, and its expertly engineered crossover network. The ML1 uses a custom-built crossover network designed by our engineers for performance and durability. Over-specified components ensure high power handling, while solid state, self-resetting protection devices prevent damage to any of the drivers. The crossover design separates the high and low frequency circuits, and each are available for both bi-wiring or bi-amping as desired.

All the power sent to the ML1 from your amplifiers is fed through our Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts that easily but securely attach the speaker cables to prevent them from coming loose and possibly causing a short. The binding posts are gold-plated to prevent corrosion and ensure a quality signal is sent through your speaker cables.

The ML1 is made in the USA and comes with a matching stand that features a vintage die cast aluminum name badge on the base that matches the badges found on some of our amplifiers and integrated amplifiers. The stand has been designed to elevate and position the ML1 loudspeaker for optimum imaging and listening enjoyment. It comes with feet for use on hard floors, and spikes for use on carpet. The McIntosh Low Frequency Loudspeaker Elements feature the patented LD/HP Magnetic Circuit Design. This design, when compared to conventional Loudspeaker Drivers, reduces distortion significantly. It also increases power handling and efficiency. The rear vent through the magnetic assembly offers improved heat dissipation. The die cast basket has an open air area under the voice coil/spider assembly to prevent displacement noise. The polypropylene cone with a rubber surround has a four layer copper voice coil and is rigid to perform as a near perfect air piston. Altogether these advances in woofer design construction and materials produce the very important first several octaves of music, with a high degree of accuracy and superb transient response. This performance level rivals woofers twice the size of the LCR80 woofer.

The two inch Midrange Drivers and the three-quarter inch Dome Super Tweeter all use this Alloy. The Neodymium-Iron-Boron Alloy has the highest flux density per unit of volume. This allows for a smaller physical size driver and thus closer driver to driver placement for improved dispersion.

Low Harmonic and Intermodulation Distortion

The LCR80 Loudspeaker System is capable of reproducing the full dynamic range of a symphony orchestra with very low audible distortion of any kind.

The Loudspeaker Elements and Crossover Components of the LCR80 are all chosen for use with amplifiers up to 300 watts, yet can be driven with a 75 watt amplifier.

Locating the Super Tweeter between the multiple Midrange drivers generates a symmetrical polar response for superior imaging.

The LCR80 Loudspeaker System is designed for use in a multichannel system including the Front Channels (Left, Center and Right) or Surround Channels (Side and Back).

The patented Rotatable Dispersion Pattern Baffle Board2 assures the same wide dispersion and excellent sonic imaging whether the LCR80 is positioned Vertically or Horizontally.

The LCR80’s built-in speaker protection incorporates three automatic resetting solid-state devices in the crossover network. One protects the tweeter, one for the midrange drivers and one for the woofers.

Rear Stabilizer and Wall Mounting Brackets

The two Rear Stabilizers allow changing the vertical angle of ± 11 degrees. The On-Wall Mounting Brackets supplied with the LCR80 are for vertical or horizontal mounting. They allow for angled mounting of ±30 degrees.

McIntosh patented gold plated output terminals3 deliver high current output. They accept large diameter wire and spade lugs. Banana plugs may also be used.

The LCR80 Loudspeaker enclosure is constructed with non-parallel internal sides to reduce internal standing waves. The LCR80 is available in various real wood veneers with a high gloss polyester finish.

With its more user-friendly size that is 14" (35 cm) shorter and 173 lbs (78 kg) lighter than the XRT2.1K, the XRT1.1K can comfortably fit in a wider variety of home environments. While not as large as the XRT2.1K, the XRT1.1K is still an extraordinary loudspeaker that produces a powerful aural experience and sonic performance that can easily fill a room with astonishing musicality.

The ported, 4-way XRT1.1K speaker uses our line array design to yield an even and wide sound field, producing exceptional stereo imaging in nearly all listening positions. With our line array speaker design, listeners closer to the XRT1.1K will not be overpowered by extremely high volumes as they will only be on axis to a portion of the drivers; listeners farther away will be on axis to more of the drivers and will be able to easily hear the music without any large drop off in sound level or quality.

The XRT1.1K uses a total of 70 individual drivers consisting of (4) 6.5” woofers, (2) 6.5” low frequency midranges, (24) 2” upper frequency midranges and (40) ¾” tweeters. The woofer and low frequency midrange drivers that were first designed for the XRT2.1K have been incorporated into the XRT1.1K. They are housed in the large bass enclosure cabinet located behind the line array. Their diaphragms are extremely stiff yet lightweight and their long throw design produces amazing bass extension. In front of the bass cabinet is the line array where the upper frequency midranges and tweeters, which were also first developed for the XRT2.1K, are found.

Utilizing capacitors and inductors with low loss and high current capacity, the crossover network is engineered to ensure an even frequency response over the entire audible range. The type of inductor used in each section of the network has been specially chosen for high linearity, even at high power levels. This prevents distortion of the music at any frequency. The network also employs self-resetting high current PTC type fuses to provide an extra measure of protection for the drivers.

McIntosh XRT1.1K Loudspeaker Like the XRT2.1K, the XRT1.1K looks as striking as it sounds. The bass cabinet is finished with 7 layers of high gloss piano black paint and has touches of brushed and black aluminum. The line array features hints of the classic McIntosh front panel with a black center section and silver trim. It is suspended in front of the bass cabinet via steel spiders that are inspired by modern skyscraper construction; they are capped with magnetic covers that mimic the look of McIntosh control knobs. The speaker grilles feature black knit cloth with high gloss trim; if you prefer to have the drivers visible, the grilles are easily removed via their magnetic fasteners. The base plate is made of machined aluminum and glass. It has 4 adjustable feet that allow the speaker to make perfect contact with your floor, thus eliminating a possible source of distortion or vibration.

McIntosh XRT1.1K Loudspeaker Your speaker cables are securely attached via our gold-plated Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts that prevent the cables from coming loose. Separate pairs of binding posts are available for the mid/high, low and subwoofer frequencies to allow for tri-amping or tri-wiring if so desired. The CS200 In-Ceiling Loudspeaker is a perfect choice to use in custom whole home distributed audio installations when paired with our MI128 or MI254 distribution amplifiers. It is voice matched to our WS500 and WS300 in-wall speakers, making for a cohesive sound experience where a combination of the CS200 and wall speakers are used. It's also a great surround sound speaker to use in dedicated home theaters with any of our A/V processors and multi-channel amplifiers.

This 3-way in-ceiling speaker features an 8" woven glass fiber woofer, two 2" inverted Titanium dome midranges and one 3/4" Titanium dome tweeter. The midranges and tweeter are housed in a rotating array so the already incredible sonic performance of each speaker can be maximized in each individual space. The midranges and tweeter are the same drivers used in our XR50 and XR100 home audio speakers, meaning you'll receive the same high level performance from the CS200 as from our home audio speakers.

The grille magnetically attaches for easy removal. The grille is also paintable and will leave little to no visible edge of the mounting flange so the speaker can virtually disappear into its surroundings. The WS300 In-Wall Loudspeaker is a flexible speaker that can be adapted to many custom install uses in 2-channel home audio and home theater installations. For stereo listening, or distributed audio when combined with our MI128 or MI254 distribution amplifiers, a pair of WS300s can provide room filling sound.

For multi-channel home theater, it’s voice matched to our WS500 in-wall speaker and makes a perfect center channel speaker to use when WS500s are used for the front left and right speaker; or an entire home theater can be equipped with WS300s for the front, center and surround sound speakers. Either way, simply add one or more of our CS200 in-ceiling speaker, which is also voice matched to the WS300 and WS500, to complete the at home movie experience.

The 3-way WS300 is fully enclosed to deliver incredible performance in any environment plus a controlled air chamber minimizes distortion and response irregularities. It features one 8" woofer, two 2" inverted Titanium dome midranges and one 3/4" Titanium dome tweeter. The woofer utilizes a long throw, high power design with a molded carbon reinforced cone with a molded elastomeric surround for high linearity. The McIntosh Low Frequency Loudspeaker Elements feature the patented LD/HP Magnetic Circuit Design. This design, when compared to conventional Loudspeaker Drivers, reduces distortion significantly. It also increases power handling and efficiency.

The two inch Midranges and three-quarter inch Dome Super Tweeter all use this Alloy. The Neodymium-Iron-Boron Alloy has the highest flux density per unit of volume. This allows for a smaller physical size driver and thus closer driver to driver placement for improved dispersion.

The XR50 Loudspeaker System is capable of reproducing the full dynamic range of a symphony orchestra with very low audible distortion of any kind.

The XR50 Loudspeaker System utilizes a vertical port with a rear opening to increase bass output, reduce distortion and improve the overall efficiency of the Loudspeaker.

The Loudspeaker Elements and Crossover Components of the XR50 are all chosen for use with amplifiers up to 300 watts, yet can be driven with a 75 watt amplifier.

Locating the Super Tweeter between the two Midranges generates a symmetrical polar response for superior imaging.

The XR50 Loudspeaker enclosure is constructed with non-parallel internal sides to reduce internal standing waves and is available in various finishes.

McIntosh patent pending gold plated input terminals accept high current signals. They accept large diameter wire and spade lugs. Banana plugs may also be used.

The Power Control Input supplies power to illuminate the XR50 McIntosh Logo and Power Control Output supplies power for remote turn-on of additional Components.
